She\u2019s the mastermind behind TV juggernauts <em>Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>, <em>Scandal<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/viola-davis-egot-winner-2023-grammy-awards\/\"><em>How to Get Away with Murder<\/em><\/a> and the Netflix smash hits <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/simone-ashley-bridgerton-season-2-premiere\/\"><em>Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/anna-delvey-case-drew-shonda-rhimes-back-to-tv-writing\/\"><em>Inventing Anna<\/em><\/a>. Over her impressive career, she redefined Hollywood by breaking down barriers and telling all stories about all people. She\u2019s shattered a few glass ceilings along the way, too, becoming TV\u2019s highest paid showrunner. As hitmaker Rhimes churns out record-breaking programs, plus Shondaland podcasts and content, what helps the creator feel her best and, in turn, do her best work is the power of the perfect outfit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, fashion is fascinating because I love to look at beautiful clothes. In my job working in television, the costumes have always been incredibly important for me. But I also really like to be comfortable,\u201d Rhimes says. \u201cBeing comfortable is probably the most important thing for me. If I don&#8217;t feel comfortable, I feel like I can&#8217;t think creatively.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72041\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72041\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72041 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/02\/SJK-OWN-YOUR-POWER_ML_18_2084-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72041\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shonda Rhimes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One brand that delivers exactly what Rhimes searches for sartorially is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohnknits.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">American knitwear fashion house St. John<\/a>. \u201cI&#8217;ve been wearing the brand for years,\u201d she shares. \u201cIt&#8217;s really rare to find clothes that are this comfortable and this well-made at the same time so that you can sort of be out in the world looking professional but always sort of feel like you&#8217;re wearing your comfiest things that make you present yourself in the best way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The producer wore <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/st-john-karla-welch-host-dinner\/\">St. John<\/a> on the cover of <em>TIME<\/em>, and she attended the 2022 Emmys in what she recalls was the \u201cmost incredible dress\u201d that the brand crafted for her. The piece, Rhimes says, made her feel \u201clike a princess\u201d \u2014 something she doesn\u2019t necessarily always endorse, \u201cbut it was perfect for that moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A partnership was the organic next step for St. John, and the heritage brand tapped Rhimes to star in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohnknits.com\/editorial-own-your-power-shonda-rhimes\" target=\"_blank\">Spring 2023 #OwnYourPower campaign<\/a>, a celebration of incredible women doing extraordinary things. \u201cWe believe Shonda represents St. John so well,\u201d St. John Global CEO Andy Lew says. \u201cOur clothes empower global audiences, and Shonda does the same.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For Rhimes, the decision to work with St. John was simple, especially since the campaign centers<br \/>\naround the empowerment of women, a topic she\u2019s passionate about. \u201cIt&#8217;s getting harder and harder as opposed to easier for women to feel empowered in the office,\u201d she explains. \u201cHaving #OwnYourPower be what the campaign is about is really about women supporting other women and letting other women know that no matter who you are or where you are in life, it&#8217;s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of this is easy,\u201d she continues. \u201cNobody has a job that feels like they&#8217;re just doing it all perfectly. I think it&#8217;s important to sort of expose that to everybody and to let everybody know that it doesn&#8217;t matter who you are or what you&#8217;re doing, you can find power in yourself and own it and elevate yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72039\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72039\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72039 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/02\/SJK-OWN-YOUR-POWER_ML_22_2822.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1506\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72039\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shonda Rhimes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For women on the path to owning their power, her advice is simple: Believe in what you can accomplish. \u201cYou know more than you think you know \u2014 we all know more than we think we know,\u201d Rhimes insists. \u201cWe&#8217;re conditioned to feel like we know less. We\u2019re conditioned to feel like we have to sort of sit behind somebody else and the reality of it is we all have the right instincts going for us and everybody should really just embrace those.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mom of three understands women prioritizing and taking care of themselves can be \u201can incredibly difficult thing to do,\u201d and when she needs a quick boost, she simply wears something she loves. \u201cI feel better when I look better,\u201d she says. \u201cI always say if I show up at work and I&#8217;m incredibly perfect looking, it&#8217;s because I&#8217;m having
