When Rihanna<\/a> was announced as the Super Bowl’s 2023 halftime<\/a> performer, the news \u2014 released with an image of the singer’s hand holding a football in the air<\/a> \u2014 broke the internet. For years now, fans have been desperate for new music<\/a> and live shows from Rihanna, so much so that it’s become a joke that even she’s in on. But instead, she canceled the release of her scheduled studio album, focused on expanding her beauty and lingerie empire<\/a> (becoming a billionaire in the process), and, of course, became a mother<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, ahead of her first performance in seven years \u2014 and her biggest of her career, Rihanna has opened up about the timing of it all. \u201cIt feels like it could have only been now,” she said during a pre-show press conference, dressed impeccably in Ala\u00efa. “I mean, when I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, \u2018Psst, you sure?\u2019 I\u2019m three months postpartum, like, should I be making major decisions like this now? Like I might regret this.”<\/p>\n
