When I realized the 2023 Grammys<\/a> were on and saw that Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> was trending, my first thought was “finally.” Finally, Beyonc\u00e9 has won Album of the Year for her seventh studio album, Renaissance<\/em>, an album that was undoubtedly \u2014 whether you’re a Beyonc\u00e9 fan or not \u2014 the album of the year. (That and Crash<\/em> by Charli XCX, which wasn’t even nominated because, as she says<\/a>, “people don\u2019t wanna see hot evil girls thrive”, but that’s another issue.)<\/p>\n

However, despite years of backlash about this exact situation \u2014 including Adele<\/a> herself telling Beyonc\u00e9 on stage that Lemonade<\/em> should have won the award when she, instead, won in 2017 \u2014 the Grammys still<\/em> hasn’t got it right.<\/p>\n

Instead, Harry Styles<\/a> took home the night’s biggest accolade for his second studio album, Harry’s House<\/em>. An album that was nowhere near as good \u2014 or as well received by fans and critics alike \u2014 as his first, let alone on the same playing field as Renaissance<\/em>. To make matters worse, Styles didn’t appear to be clued in on the travesty of it all, saying in his acceptance speech, “It’s not often people like me win things like that.” Him being an able-bodied white man, of course.<\/p>\n

Naturally, Jay-Z agrees the Grammys got it wrong (again). In an interview with\u00a0Tidal Magazine<\/i><\/span><\/a>, which took place ahead of the awards ceremony, the rapper spoke about why his wife <\/i><\/span>deserved to win Album of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLook what it\u2019s done to the culture,\u201d he said of Renaissance<\/em>. \u201cLook how the energy of the world moved. They play her whole album in the club. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ve ever seen that. The whole entire joint \u2014 like, everything?! Every remix is amazing. Everyone\u2019s inspired. It has inspired the world. Every remix is better than the other one.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After years of Beyonc\u00e9 losing in the category \u2014 she’s been nominated for Album of the Year four times and has never<\/em> won \u2014 the publication asked Jay-Z if he allowed himself to feel confident about the prospect of her finally getting her dues, or if he tried to emotionally remove himself from the process. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I remove myself from the process and hope they just get it right,” he responded, adding, “<\/span>It got to the point where I was like, it\u2019s just a marketing thing. You go, you got an album out and it could help the sales go up. It got to that point, but deep down \u2026 Again, we grew up idolizing this. It was like one of the pillars for us. It was like, \u2018We want to go Gold.\u2019 Yeah, I\u2019ve been in it that long.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On the night, Beyonc\u00e9 made history, breaking the record for the most Grammy wins of all time<\/a>, taking home four awards, including <\/span>Best Dance\/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance<\/em>. This makes her total Grammy wins to 32. 32 and still no Album of the Year?
