After a mere two seasons HBO Max has revealed it will pull the plug on the reboot of\u00a0Gossip Girl<\/em><\/a>. Showrunner Josh Safran confirmed the news in a statement citing that the series would look for a streaming platform elsewhere.<\/p>\n

“So here\u2019s the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce Gossip Girl<\/em> will not be continuing on HBO Max,\u201d he shared on social media. The second season which was just released will see the final episode air on Jan. 26.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThe EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication and love for the project.”<\/p>\n

Gossip Girl\u00a0<\/em>was renewed halfway through season 1 after record viewership on the platform, but it received less than impressive reviews on the internet. It currently sits at 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes while The Guardian <\/em><\/a>dubbed it “clumsy” but “watchable.\u201d<\/p>\n

HBO Max said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter <\/em><\/a>on Thursday, \u201cWe are very grateful to Josh Safran, Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard. Although we are not moving forward with a third season of Gossip Girl, we thank them for the enticing love triangles, calculated backstabbing and impeccable fashion this series brought to a new audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cast features Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Whitney Peak, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno and Savannah Lee Smith.<\/p>\n
