It\u2019s time for\u00a0Pamela Anderson<\/a>\u00a0to speak her truth. In March, Netflix announced that Anderson is \u201cready to tell her story\u201d in a new documentary<\/a>, and today it\u2019s been revealed that\u00a0Pamela, a love story<\/em>, is set to land on the streamer on Jan. 31.<\/p>\n

When the\u00a0Hulu mini-series\u00a0Pam & Tommy<\/em><\/a>\u00a0debuted earlier this year, (which was green-lit without Anderson\u2019s approval or consent) the\u00a0Baywatch<\/em>\u00a0babe vowed to never watch<\/a> it. Ever since it aired, Anderson hasn\u2019t commented, but the forthcoming documentary will reportedly reveal the Barb Wire<\/em> actress\u2019 painful reaction to hearing the news of its creation.<\/p>\n

Set amid the early days of the internet, Pam & Tommy<\/em> chronicled the unhinged odyssey of the theft and subsequent release of Anderson\u2019s and then-husband M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce drummer Tommy Lee\u2019s private sex tape.<\/p>\n

Anderson\u2019s doc, directed by acclaimed auteur Ryan White (known for The Keepers<\/em>, Good Night Oppy<\/em>, and The Case Against 8<\/em>), will include exclusive archival interviews and never-before-seen footage, as well as personal journal entries from Anderson.<\/p>\n

The filmmaker told Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a> of Anderson and Lee\u2019s home movies. \u201cThe infamous stolen tape, which we\u2019re always very careful to call \u2018the stolen tape\u2019 and not \u2018sex tape,\u2019 was just one of hundreds of hours that they filmed,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s no calculation with how [Anderson] thinks about these types of things. It\u2019s all just about being raw and honest, for better or worse. It made for a really emotional film and I\u2019m really grateful that I got to work with someone like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

White also revealed that Anderson\u2019s sons (with whom she shares with Lee), Brandon, 26 (who is helping to produce the project) and Dylan, 24, encouraged their mother \u201cto tell her story on her own terms. They adore their mother and really hate seeing her story being told by other people in a way that they don\u2019t feel is authentic to who she is. Pamela, by nature, is an incredibly open and honest person. That\u2019s perhaps why Pamela\u2019s gotten burned a lot in her life, but I also think it\u2019s what\u2019s so lovable and infectious about her.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Broadway darling<\/a> told the publication<\/a>, \u201cBrandon can talk me into anything with his sincere heart and a fierceness that only a son could have.\u201d She said, \u201cHe wanted to tell my story, authentically and without distortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anderson and Lee met and married in the span of four days, tying the knot in Cancun, Mexico in 1995. The celebrity whirlwind romance that saturated headlines was met with a maelstrom of media attention after contractor Rand Gaultier (played by Seth Rogen) sought revenge by stealing the couple\u2019s safe from their Malibu home after Lee previously fired him and allegedly threatened Gaultier with a firearm. After discovering the private recording within the stolen safe, Gaultier colluded with porn producer Milton \u201cUncle Miltie\u201d Ingley to disseminate pirated VHS copies through the World Wide Web, as revealed in a bombshell Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> article.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody knew the truth\u2014even I don\u2019t know 100% of what happened,\u201d said Anderson. \u201cI think what is most important is to share my human feelings and how much it hurt and how it undeniably defined me moving forward\u2014in my career and my relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the tape\u2019s release, Lee and Anderson were met with a glaring chasm of incongruent media encounters. Bearing the brunt of the shame and blame of it all, the Canadian actress and model was met with contempt, humiliation, and condemnation while Lee, by most regards, was considered\u00a0the man<\/em>.<\/p>\n

After her victimization by the media, Anderson and Lee divorced after three years of marriage, and Lee served six months in jail for spousal battery after assaulting Anderson with their child in her arms.<\/p>\n

While show runners claimed<\/a> they hoped to shed a light on the unfair dynamic through the series, one has to consider what it means that the project has been conducted without Anderson\u2019s approval or consent.<\/p>\n

Close friend of Anderson\u2019s Courtney Love<\/a> was vocal about her opinion of the show, describing the release of the tape as \u201cschadenfreude\u201d (joy stemmed from another\u2019s humiliation or troubles) and said the\u00a0 series has drudged up “complex trauma” for Anderson.<\/p>\n

Pamela, a love story<\/em> will be released on the same day as her new book, Love, Pamela<\/em><\/a>. Available for\u00a0pre-order now<\/a>, the memoir will be published by HarperCollins and Dey Street Books on Jan. 31, 2023. \u201cIt feels like some kind of miracle \u2014 to be retracing the painful steps of my youth,\u201d Anderson shared on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI repainted scenes in detail, if it were my childhood or at the Playboy mansion.\u201d<\/p>\n
