(Photo by Julian Parker\/UK Press via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/prince-harry-announces-release-date-cover-new-memoir\/\">Prince Harry<\/a> is opening up about the love and loss of his mother <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/the-crown-fact-fiction-princess-diana-explosive-bbc-interview\/\">Princess Diana<\/a> in the newly released <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/meghan-markle-prince-harry-netflix-docuseries-release-date\/\">Netflix documentary <\/a><em>Harry &amp; Meghan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the series\u2019 first episode, the Duke of Sussex opens up about the late <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/elizabeth-debicki-princess-diana-the-crown-red-carpet\/\">Lady Diana<\/a>, who passed away on August 31, 1997 in a Paris car crash. \u201cI don\u2019t have many early memories of my mom,\u201d he said in a one-on-one interview. \u201cIt was almost like, internally, I sort of blocked them out.\u201d Prince Harry was just 12 years old when his mother passed away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always remember her laugh, her cheeky laugh \u2013 always saying to me, \u2018You can get in trouble, just don\u2019t get caught,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ll always be that cheeky person inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to add, \u201cThe majority of my memories are of being swarmed by paparazzi. (Photo by Mirrorpix via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMy mom did such a good job at trying to protect us,\u201d said the Duke of Sussex. \u201cShe took it upon herself to basically confront these people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The episode included archival footage of Diana addressing the issue with paparazzi while on vacation with her children at a ski resort. Approaching a photographer and placing her hand over the lens of his camera, Diana explains to him in both a strong and polite tone, \u201cAs a parent, could I ask you to respect my children\u2019s space? Because I brought the children out here for a holiday and we\u2019d really appreciate the space,\u201d she said. \u201cAs a parent, I want to protect the children. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prince Harry recalled how, after Princess Diana and the now King Charles III separated in 1996, the media\u2019s fascination with the Princess only grew, but her protection from the Firm dwindled. \u201cMy mom was harassed throughout her life with my dad, but after they separated, the harassment went to new levels,\u201d Harry said. \u201cThe moment that she divorced, the moment she left the Institution, then she was by herself. Yes, she may have been one of the most influential, powerful women in the world, but she was completely exposed to this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_68875\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-68875\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-68875 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/12\/GettyImages-52117747.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"870\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-68875\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Princess Of Wales With Her Two Sons, Prince William And Prince Harry On A Chair-lift During A Ski Hloiday In Lech, Austria (Photo by Tim Graham Photo Library via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution \u2013 I remember thinking, \u2018How can I ever find someone who is willing and capable to be able to withstand all the baggage that comes with being with me?\u2019\u201d explained Prince Harry. The Duke said he was terrified that rabid media attention would drive <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/meghan-markle-white-dress-prince-harry-gala-nyc\/\">Meghan Markle<\/a>\u00a0away in the early stages of their romance. &#8220;I think, for so many people in the family, especially the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mold as opposed to somebody who perhaps you are destined to be with,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Noting the &#8220;difference between making decisions with your head or your heart,&#8221; Prince Harry explained, &#8220;My mum certainly made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart.&#8221; He added, \u201cAnd I am my mother&#8217;s son.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_68879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-68879\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-68879 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/12\/GettyImages-1211537727.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"849\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-68879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Princess Diana and Prince Harry, 1995. She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her,&#8221; said Harry. \u201cI accept that they\u2019ll be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I\u2019ve done and how I\u2019ve done it, but I knew that I had to do everything I could to protect my family, especially after what happened to my mom. You know, I didn\u2019t want history to repeat itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The first three episodes of <em>Harry &amp; Meghan<\/em> are now available to stream on Netflix, and will be followed by the
