Leave it to Mo\u00ebt & Chandon to kick off the holidays with a night to remember. Earlier this week to unveil the new sculpture “Your Voices” by Es Devlin, the storied French fine winery hosted a holiday celebration in N.Y.C. filled with A-list stars and a memorable performance by none other than the Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey.<\/p>\n

The event marked the unveiling of the new large-scale illuminating sculpture by the British contemporary artist that’s currently on display at Lincoln Center\u2019s Josie Robertson Plaza through Dec. 18. Commissioned by Mo\u00ebt & Chandon, the artwork symbolizes a continuation of Mo\u00ebt & Chandon’s Toast for a Cause initiative, which supports the Endangered Language Alliance to preserve global languages spoken in New York City. The brand has long ties to the city, ever since 1787 when the first order of Mo\u00ebt & Chandon reached the New World.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour Voices\u201d honors the city’s linguistic and cultural diversity, and Lincoln Center will be featuring New York-based choral groups to perform within the sculpture to “represent the range of rare and unique voices of the city,” the brand explains. The performances will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. and will be free for the public to enjoy.<\/p>\n

The rotating sculpture features over 700 glowing cords which correlates to the over 700 languages spoken in the city. Guests can enter the structure built with overlapping arcs to experience the “multilingual choral soundscape.”<\/p>\n

“The work responds to anthropologist Wade Davis\u2019s observation: \u2018Every language is an old growth forest of the mind, a watershed of thought, an entire ecosystem of spiritual possibilities,'” Devlin says in a statement. “As the sculpture revolves, it acts as a lens between the viewer and their surroundings. The viewer\u2019s perspective is spliced and framed by the shifting strands of the sculpture as it turns, evoking the way our perspectives are enriched and shaped by experiencing the linguistic structures and identities of others, amidst a soundscape composed by the contemporary composers, Polyphonia, in which the powerful text from EM Forster\u2019s 1910 novel Howards End<\/em> has been translated into multiple overlaid languages: \u2018Only connect, and live in fragments no longer.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She adds, “Every language is a vast library of cultural, historical, biological knowledge gathered over centuries. The luminous harmonics of this work aim to draw our attention to the complex beauty of New York\u2019s linguistic diversity and celebrate its vital role in the resilience and civic sustainability of the city and its future. The work has been made in association with the Endangered Language Alliance and visitors will be encouraged to learn more about their work in protecting and cultivating linguistic diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Inside the event at Lincoln Center on Monday, Dec. 5, there were a slew of stars including actors Jessica Chastain, Daniel Kaluuya, Sienna Miller, Taylor Russell and Alexa Demie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Podcast host, author and model Emily Ratajkowski, tennis superstar Roger Federer, comedian Trevor Noah, playwright Jeremy O. Harris, athletes Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Victor Cruz, designers Prabal Gurung and Phillip Lim, and many many more A-list names were on-hand.<\/p>\n

After a toast to Mo\u00ebt & Chandon’s donation to the Endangered Language Alliance with Mo\u00ebt & Chandon President & CEO Berta de Pablos Barbier, there was a surprise halfway through the night when guests were ushered into a concert venue to listen to Ms. Mariah Carey belt out some of her classics like a “Big Energy\/Fantasy” mix and \u201cWe Belong Together,” as well as her iconic hit, \u201cAll I Want For Christmas Is You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had such a fabulous time last night performing at Moet & Chandon\u2019s holiday celebration,” said Carey in the release. “Kicking off the season with everybody in attendance was glorious!! The fun and festivities were the perfect party starter for my upcoming sold out shows in Toronto and in my hometown N.Y.C. at Madison Square Garden Merry Christmas to All!”<\/p>\n

Guests sipped on (what else?) Mo\u00ebt Imp\u00e9rial and Moet Nectar Imperial Rose as they partied to music by\u00a0DJs Heron Preston and Vashtie<\/a>. Plus, there was a sneak preview of the brand’s Grand Vintage 2004 presented for the first time in Jeroboam size. The vintage, which matured in cellars for more than 15 years, marks the milestone 280th anniversary of Mo\u00ebt & Chandon which will take place next year.<\/p>\n
