With<a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/emma-corrin-responds-to-the-crown-backlash\/\"> season four of <em>The Crown<\/em><\/a>, yes, but also with <em>The Queen&#8217;s Gambit<\/em>, which became a surprise smash hit during the UK&#8217;s second lockdown. Surprising, because period dramas about female chess players don&#8217;t tend to command audiences of several million. It&#8217;s a testament to the series&#8217; showrunners, and, more importantly, to its enigmatic star, Anya Taylor-Joy, that the show has become so popular.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor-Joy has been making the rounds on &#8216;Hollywood Ones to Watch&#8217; lists for the last five years, following her chilling performance in 2015&#8217;s horror classic\u00a0<em>The Witch<\/em>. A guest appearance in <em>Peaky Blinders\u00a0<\/em>and in the\u00a0<em>Split<\/em> movies followed\u2014but 2020 is the year that the 24-year-old American has really hit the big time. In February, she starred as the titular <em>Emma<\/em> in August de Wilde&#8217;s critically acclaimed remake and now, with her turn in <em>The Queen&#8217;s Gambit<\/em><em>, <\/em>she&#8217;s set to become a household name.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from her striking mop of blonde hair and a proclivity for a statement lip, Taylor-Joy has become recognizable for her impeccable sense of style. With the aid of Law Roach\u2014the self-proclaimed &#8216;image architect&#8217; responsible for the visual genius of Zendaya and Celine Dion\u2014she has continued to serve hyper-feminine high fashion looks by the likes of Loewe and Miu Miu.
