Olivia Wilde<\/a> is ready for battle \u2014 and she’s surely taking home a best dressed win with her look. This week, the Don\u2019t Worry Darling<\/em><\/a> director attended the red carpet premiere of Women Talking<\/em> in Los Angeles wearing a gilded gold breastplate across her long-sleeve black gown.<\/p>\n

Wilde rocked the “Cybele” dress from designer Gabriela Hearst<\/a>\u2019s Spring\/Summer 2023 collection. The black Merino wool floor-length gown featured a strapless metallic gold Napa leather breastplate with distressed edges. She paired the artistic ensemble with dainty gold earrings and platform black heels.<\/p>\n

The star styled her hair in soft, loose waves, pulled back into a low ponytail and sported a shimmering champagne eyeshadow and cat eye for her glam.<\/p>\n

Lately, you probably have noticed a lot of breastplate action on the carpet. In addition to Gabriela Hearst other designers such as Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry, Loewe\u2019s Jonathan Anderson<\/a>, Tom Ford, and LaQuan Smith<\/a> have all sent sculpted silhouettes down their runways.<\/p>\n

Just earlier this week, Euphoria<\/em> actress Sydney Sweeney<\/a> stepped out in a fantastically futuristic asymmetrical draped black gown with a silver metallic breastplate featuring pointed nipples from LaQuan Smith\u2019s Spring\/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection.<\/p>\n

The space-age look evoked the same fem-bot essence of her forthcoming role as Barbarella<\/em><\/a>, previously portrayed by the legendary Jane Fonda<\/a>, who adorned intergalactic Paco Rabanne- designed space gear and breastplates in the 1968 Roger Vadim film.<\/p>\n

Another Euphoria<\/em> star, Zendaya, has also championed the look on the carpet, wearing a hot pink Tom Ford breastplate to the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards and wore a gray Loewe dress with a gold breastplate to the Women in Film Honors in October 2021.<\/p>\n

This hasn’t been a brand-new phenomenon in fashion \u2014 many of Thierry Mugler\u2019s inventive breastplates are currently on display at the Brooklyn Museum\u2019s Thierry Mugler: Couturissime<\/em><\/a> exhibition, such as the motorcycle bustier from the designer\u2019s Pr\u00eat-a-Porter Spring\/Summer 1992 collection.<\/p>\n

Yves Saint Laurent\u2019s Fall\/Winter 1969 \u201cEmpreintes\u201d collection also featured them as well as creations from designers Issey Miyake<\/a>, Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, and Jean Paul Gaultier to name a few.<\/p>\n

From ancient armor to subversive sartorial statement, the juxtaposition of the breastplate\u2019s innate masculinity, melded with an exaggeration of the female form has captured the curiosity of fashion\u2019s most prolific creatives.<\/p>\n
