Last month, Lana Del Rey took some heat when she was seen wearing a bedazzled mesh face mask<\/a> while greeting fans amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The “Summertime Sadness” singer made an impromptu stop at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles to promote her poetry book, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass<\/em> and wore the same sparkly covering adorning her face on the September cover of Interview<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n However, the stylish breathable covering did not appear to protect against coronavirus and fans were quick to criticize the 35-year-old as “irresponsible” and “a danger to herself and others.” She was even called a “Karen” as she seemed to ignore\u00a0L.A. COVID-19 guidelines<\/a> asking that everyone wear cloth face masks when out in public or interacting with others.<\/p>\n “Lana i\u2019m begging you wear a real mask,” one user wrote on Instagram while another added, “people my age having serious conditions and getting Corona could easily kill them. You behave like my mom, your [sic] such a Karen, how old are you wtf\u2026” Others took to social media with memes referencing the title of her album “Born To Die.”<\/p>\n The New City York native had remained quiet on the controversy but on Monday, when the Michigan Daily<\/em><\/a> tweeted a story about the scandal surrounding the 35-year-old wearing the mesh mask \u2014 Del Rey responded.<\/p>\n \u201cHow @LanaDelRey wearing a mesh mask in public may have gotten her “canceled,” the student-run newspaper tweeted out.<\/p>\n The musician quickly commented on the post, saying: \u201cGreat article. The mask had plastic on the inside. They\u2019re commonly sewn in by stylists<\/a> these days. I don\u2019t generally respond to articles because I don\u2019t care. But there ya go. Same goes for everyone\u2019s masks in my video. I\u2019m lucky enough to have a team of people who can do that.\u201d<\/p>\n Again not that I believe it\u2019s anyone\u2019s business at all-but I made it clear who I voted for. And I don\u2019t glamorize tough relationships. Relationships can just be tough. Period. Every other singer sings about the same damn thing. Always have, Probably always will.
