On Monday night, the cast of Olivia Wilde’s upcoming thriller, Don’t Worry Darling<\/em>, assembled on the red carpet together for the first time for the film’s premiere<\/a>. Despite starring Harry Styles in his first major role, having Florence Pugh \u2014 one of Hollywood’s most exciting actors of the moment \u2014 in the lead, and starring the likes of Chris Pine<\/a> and Gemma Chan, the off-set drama surrounding the movie<\/a> outshone anything that happened on screen.<\/p>\n

Despite the cast doing their best to smile through the awkwardness \u2014 including that Wilde and Pugh avoided each other’s eyes for the full 25 minutes they were meters away from each other posing for photos \u2014 unsurprisingly, an industry insider has told PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> the situation has been “tough to navigate with a smile.”<\/p>\n

The source went on to say the situation is unfortunate because “everyone went into the movie with the best intentions.” That much is true: at the time she was announced as being part of the project, Pugh herself shared her excitement at working with her “idol” Wilde for the first time.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, by trying to act like everything was fine, the source thinks the drama was instead compounded: “By trying to not make headlines they made way more,” they added. Pugh, they say, who skipped the press conference and made an appearance only at the premiere, “came out looking flawless while the others invoked questions.”<\/p>\n

PEOPLE<\/em>‘s source thinks the cast should have skipped the premiere and instead should have opted to promote it through marketing materials. “There is so much sexiness and intrigue to mine. They should have skipped the festival and led with marketing.”<\/p>\n

Though, of course, no one could predict just how chaotic Monday would be, from an alleged spitting incident<\/a> to stylists going to war<\/a>. Justice for Gemma Chan and Chris Pine, who held the night together by a string.<\/p>\n
