No one does horror quite as well as Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro in our book, so when we heard he was behind a new Netflix<\/a> anthology series, we expected brilliant. The first look at Cabinet of Curiosities<\/em><\/a> has landed, and so far we aren’t disappointed.<\/p>\n While del Toro created the Netflix concept, he’s actually recruited several of the best horror\/fantasy directors to step behind the lens of each episode. Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Red Riding Hood)<\/em> helms “Dreams In The Witch House,” which is based on a short story by renowned horror writer H.P Lovecraft and stars Rupert Grint of Harry Potter<\/em> fame, while Australian director Jennifer Kent (The Babadook)<\/em> leads the first episode, “The Murmuring,” starring Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries<\/em>) who also starred in\u00a0The Babadook<\/em>,\u00a0and Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead).<\/em><\/p>\n Those are just two examples of the star-studded cast and crew involved in\u00a0Cabinet of Curiosities<\/em>, with other notable appearances by Crispin Glover, Eric Andre and Ben Barnes dotted across the eight episodes.<\/p>\n The first look is fronted by Guillermo del Toro himself, as he explains the origin of the Netflix series. A collection of stories curated by the filmmaker himself, del Toro also hand-picked the directors and writers of each episode. This really is a project of love for the\u00a0Shape Of Water<\/em> director. \u201cEach of the episodes has a whole world,\u201d he explains of the separate episodes. \u201cThey present you with different delights.”<\/p>\n
