Last week, the 20th Annual Martha’s Vineyard African-American<\/a> Film Festival commenced in beautiful Martha’s Vineyard, bringing out industry luminaries<\/a> and film buffs, which just so happened to include the former president and first lady of the United States. Barack and Michelle Obama<\/a> made a surprise appearance, making headlines for the pop-in and for their on-point summer style.<\/span><\/p>\n

To introduce the screening of their upcoming Netflix documentary\u00a0<\/span>Descendant<\/span><\/em>, they both gave casual looks a tailored approach. The former president teamed a navy collared shirt with gray slacks, while the <\/span>Becoming\u00a0<\/span><\/em>author’s ensemble also spoke volumes to the crowd. Mrs. Obama opted for an oh-so-chic white maxi dress that was perfect for the Massachusetts island. The dress featured tassels around the waist and a thigh-high slit. For accessories, she layered up with gold and white necklaces and gold hoops.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Descendant\u00a0<\/span><\/em>is the latest work picked up by the couple’s production company Higher Ground Productions, and scheduled to be released on the streaming platform sometime this year. The film follows a community in Alabama who are descendants of the Clotilda, the last known slave ship to bring captives from Africa to the U.S illegally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
