Jennifer Garner is always one of those celebrities we can count on to keep it real<\/a>, whether she’s staging her “pretend cooking show<\/a>” or sharing uplifting feel-good content<\/a> on Instagram. In a new interview, she also kept things candid and opened up about the beauty lessons she’s passing down to her daughters. And as expected, she has some sage advice.<\/p>\n

“My beauty advice is always the same: Look in the mirror less, obsess less, and look at the rest of the world to see what you could be using your time for instead,” the mom of three told Harper’s Bazaar<\/em> in a new interview. “We all look at our faces more than people used to, and it doesn\u2019t do you any good. You obsess over changes or how to fix something on your face.”<\/p>\n

In addition to looking in the mirror less, she also advises daughters Violet, 16, and\u00a0Seraphina, 13, whom she shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck<\/a>, to “be cautious when it comes to injecting anything into your face.”<\/p>\n

She continued, “Be very, very incredibly judicious and wait as absolutely long as possible to add anything. Don\u2019t think that you\u2019re 37 and you need to be shooting up your face. You don\u2019t need to wear so much makeup or have such a constant blowout.”<\/p>\n

Her approach to beauty (be it hair or makeup), all starts with taking care of her skin and hair. “Then you should feel good without adding anything major,\u201d she tells the outlet<\/a>. \u201cAs I get older, I probably need more mascara or to give my roots a little help, but I don\u2019t have to do that, because I know that my skin and hair are as strong as ever.”<\/p>\n

She previously shared other beauty tips she’s passed on to her kids in an interview with PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>, saying she stresses the importance of washing one’s face every day. She said she leaves Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser in every bathroom (she’s a brand spokesperson) and makes sure her kids wash up every night, including her 10-year-old son Samuel.<\/p>\n

“I will stand next to my son because I monitor his toothbrushing,” she said. “And when he is done… I will cup water in my hands and give him water. And then while I’m doing that, I get his face and I get some daily cleanser because you have to wash your face before bed. You have to get into that habit.”<\/p>\n

She added that she didn’t care if “he’s never heard of a pimple” yet. “You have to do it.”<\/p>\n
