In a new interview with\u00a0Vanity Fair<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Dakota Johnson<\/a> admitted that when she first auditioned for Fifty Shades of Grey, <\/em>she thought the film adaption would be “really special.”\u00a0 She was originally cast alongside Charlie Hunnam who later dropped out due to a scheduling problem. According to the actress, the author of the book and writer of the film, E.L. James was so “enraged” that she scrapped the script.<\/p>\n

Jamie Dornan was eventually recast but problems ensued. \u201cShe had a lot of creative control, all day, every day, and she just demanded that certain things happen,” Johnson told the publication. “There were parts of the books that just wouldn\u2019t work in a movie, like the inner monologue, which was at times incredibly cheesy.”<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThere were a lot of different disagreements. I haven\u2019t been able to talk about this truthfully ever, because you want to promote a movie the right way, and I\u2019m proud of what we made ultimately and everything turns out the way it\u2019s supposed to, but it was tricky.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the actress doesn’t regret the film \u2014 which ultimately launched her career \u2014 she did note that if she had known what was in store, “I don\u2019t think anyone would\u2019ve done it.” She also put rumors to rest that she and Dornan had fought, instead saying he was like a “brother.”<\/p>\n

In a past interview,<\/a> Johnson’s father Don Johnson revealed that the actress had never wanted to attend college and was taken off the family pay role while she pursued a career in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funny thing about her is\u2014we have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll,” Mr. Johnson told Seth Meyers. “So, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll. Towards the end of high school, I went to her and I said, \u2018So, do you want to go visit some colleges?\u2019 Or something like that. And she was like, \u2018Oh, no. I\u2019m not going to college.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThree weeks later she had nailed down that part in David Fincher\u2019s The Social Network<\/em>,\u201d the 71-year-old said, \u201cand the rest is, shall we say, cinema history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson will appear in the Netflix film\u00a0Persuasion\u00a0<\/em>next
