We finally have our first glimpse of Ana de Armas<\/a> as Marilyn Monroe and we can’t look away. The Cuban-born actress has transformed into the late Hollywood icon for the upcoming film, Blonde<\/em>, based on Joyce Carol Oates\u2019s bestselling novel of the same name. <\/span>A new teaser trailer was just released Thursday, along with the release date, which is set to drop on Netflix on September 23.<\/span><\/p>\n

Known for its rare rating of NC-17, the fictionalized film \u201cboldly reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, exploring the split between her public and private selves,\u201d according to the streamer\u2019s official synopsis. Starring <\/span>Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody as her ex-husbands baseball player Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller respectively, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams round out the cast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Born Norma Jeane Baker, <\/span>Blonde<\/span><\/i> chronicles the <\/span>Some Like it Hot<\/span><\/i> star\u2019s tumultuous childhood, through her meteoric rise to fame, and subsequent troubles. <\/span>“I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films\u2014anything I could get my hands on,” de Armas<\/a> said in an interview with Netflix’s <\/a><\/span>Queue<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We\u2019d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, \u2018What was Norma Jeane feeling here?\u2019 We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
