Turner Classic Movies just announced a new original series coming to HBO Max, examining the history of fashion in film. Dubbed Follow the Thread<\/em>, host Alicia Malone will sit down with creative directors, television personalities, fashion historians, and costume designers to unpack the various synergies and intricacies of cinematic style.<\/p>\n

Presented on TCM on June 4 and available to stream on HBO Max on June 17, Follow the Thread<\/em> will dissect films like the Audrey Hepburn<\/a> flicks Sabrina<\/em> from 1954 and Funny Face<\/em> from 1957, and the 1955 James Dean film Rebel Without a Cause<\/em>. It will place a microscope over 1967\u2019s Catherine Deneuve featured film Belle de Jour<\/em> (which was costumed by Yves Saint Laurent), and the Ralph Lauren-costumed<\/a> Annie Hall<\/em> starring Diane Keaton in 1977. The series will work its way up to present-day, examining the fashion of 2018\u2019s Crazy Rich Asians<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> Costume Institute\u2019s In America: An Anthology of Fashion<\/em><\/a>, the series will be created in collaboration with the exhibition and feature its curators Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu, and The American Wing\u2019s Sylvia Yount.<\/p>\n

For In America: An Anthology of Fashion<\/em><\/a>, the Costume Institute<\/a> worked with distinguished American film directors to produce three-dimensional cinematic \u201cfreeze frames\u201d to further illustrate the chronology intended. Tom Ford, Martin Scorsese, Chlo\u00e9 Zhao, Regina King, Sofia Coppola, Radha Blank, Janicza Bravo, and others all participated.<\/p>\n

The series will host interviews with designers including, Bob Mackie, Zac Posen<\/a>, and Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott<\/a> and expert Tim Gunn. Costume designers Sandy Powell, Zaldy, Mark Bridges, Isis Mussenden, and Deborah Nadoolman are also slated for coverage, as are film and fashion historians Kimberly Truhler and Raissa Breta\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

yet another way for our fans to join these colorful worlds and show their passion for their favorite films, which is on display in Follow the
