In retrospect, it seems almost absurd that Margot Robbie felt as if she reached her “peak”<\/a> following the release of\u00a0The Suicide Squad\u00a0<\/em>in 2021. In an interview at the time, the Australian export believed it was “all downhill from here” and essentially sounded the end of her own acting career. To call that statement premature is an understatement because overnight it was revealed that the actress is (probably) about to join one of the most iconic film franchises of all time.<\/p>\n

After whispers she’d join\u00a0<\/a>Pirates of the Caribbean<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>back in 2020, filmmaker and producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that the script is being written. He appeared in an interview with The Sunday Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>at the weekend to discuss his forthcoming film\u00a0Top Gun: Maverick, <\/em>when he was asked about the long-awaited spin off.<\/p>\n

“Yes. We\u2019re talking to Margot Robbie,” before later explaining, “we are developing two Pirates scripts \u2014 one with her, one without.” It seems that after initial announcement of her involvement, that it could change. Can you imagine though? A female-led pirate film with the <\/em>Margot Robbie? Huge.<\/p>\n

Not much else is known about the new movie but it has expectedly been delayed \u2014 or put off \u2014 due to controversy surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s ongoing court battles<\/a> which saw the star of Captain Jack Sparrow all but canceled in recent years.<\/p>\n

Robbie is no stranger to delayed film releases. In 2019 it was announced that the Harley Quinn star would appear in a spin-off of Barbie but it wasn’t until much much later (almost three years) that filming commenced. She will be joined by Ryan Gosling<\/a> and Emma Mackey. The film is set to release in theaters on July 21, 2023.<\/p>\n
