In a new interview, Kim Cattrall<\/a> has officially confirmed that she will not be reviving her iconic Sex and the City<\/em> role of Samantha Jones in the new HBO spinoff And Just Like That. <\/em>In fact, it was\u00a0a definitive “no.”<\/p>\n

To address Samantha’s very noted absence<\/a> from the revival series, show-runner Michael Patrick King created the story that Carrie and Samantha’s friendship broke down after Samantha moved to London when Carrie essentially fired Samantha as a publicist. The two communicate on the show strictly via text message.<\/p>\n

Cattrall told Variety<\/em><\/a>, “That feels different than the Samantha that I played.” Adding, “A world that I know so much about that now I don\u2019t.”<\/p>\n

In the finale episode of\u00a0<\/a>And Just Like That<\/a>‘<\/em>s first season, Sarah Jessica Parker\u2019s titular character Carrie Bradshaw scattered her late husband Big\u2019s ashes in Paris\u2019 Seine River. Looking to find solace in her estranged friend, Carrie shoots her Samantha a text, and the two arrange a date for drinks.<\/p>\n

With season 2 of the successful reboot recently green-lit, fans have still been holding out hope for an appearance by Samantha<\/a> in And Just Like That<\/em>, despite the real-life public friction between Parker<\/a> and Cattrall.<\/p>\n

While having heard much about how deeply her character’s vivacious and defining presence has been missed by fans, Cattrall divulged that she has never watched the new series. After declining to star in a third feature-length film continuing the Sex and the City<\/em> storyline, Cattrall didn’t feel that the script was doing her character justice. Apparently the story was set to revolve around Samantha receiving unsolicited nude photos from Miranda’s 14-year-old son, Brady Hobbs. “It\u2019s heartbreaking,” she expressed.<\/p>\n

Cattrall told the publication that after filming the sequel film, “Everything in me went, ‘I\u2019m done,'” she said.\u00a0“I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about [And Just Like That<\/em>] like everyone else did \u2014 on social media.”<\/p>\n

While the series has continued to keep Samantha entwined in the plot, Cattrall said, “It\u2019s odd, isn\u2019t it? I don\u2019t know how to feel about it. It\u2019s so finite for me, so it doesn\u2019t continue.” She explained, “This feels like an echo of the past. Other than the really wonderful feeling of \u2014 it\u2019s rare in my business \u2014 people wanting more, especially at 65. That feels powerful, that I\u2019ve left something behind that I\u2019m so proud of. I loved her. I loved her so, so, so much. It\u2019s tough competition. The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean.”<\/p>\n

Parker<\/a>\u00a0told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live<\/em><\/a> earlier this year, “Samantha is not gone. The actress that played that role is no longer playing that role, but people aren\u2019t absent from your life when you don\u2019t want them to be.”<\/p>\n

When asked how she feels about Parker not being okay with the idea of Cattrall reprising her role, the actress said, “Well, it would never happen anyway. So nobody has to worry about that.”<\/p>\n

Booked and busy, despite her absence from And Just Like That<\/em>, Cattrall is now starring in Hulu’s How I Met Your Father <\/em>and Peacock’s Queer as Folk<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

Also appearing in the upcoming comedy film About My Father<\/em>, Cattrall will star alongside Hollywood heavyweight Robert De
