She finishes every show with a reminder to millions around the globe to \u201cbe kind to one another\u201d and yet, a group employees on The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/em> are claiming the television host is anything but kind.<\/p>\n

Eleven staff members \u2013 10 past and one present \u2013 have spoken to BuzzFeed News<\/a><\/em> in the US about the \u201ctoxic\u201d workplace, one which they claim runs on a culture of \u201cracism, fear and intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat \u2018be kind\u2019 bullsh*t only happens when the cameras are on. It\u2019s all for show,\u201d one former employee told the publication. \u201cI know they give money to people and help them out, but it\u2019s for show.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the internet has been alight with fodder that DeGeneres herself is \u201cmean,\u201d this report tends to take aim at the senior producers on the show, with some of the employees claiming they were advised by their direct managers \u201cnot to speak to DeGeneres if they saw her around the office.\u201d<\/p>\n

A black woman who was hired as a senior producer says she was subject to \u201cmicroaggression\u201d on the regular. She says when she mustered up the courage to speak out against the discrimination in the workplace, her colleagues distanced themselves from her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever I brought up an issue to my white male boss, he would bring up some random story about some random Black friend that he had and how they managed to get over stuff,\u201d she said. \u201cHe would use his Black friend as some way to say, \u2018I understand your struggle.\u2019 But it was all performative bullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another employee labeled the set \u201ctoxic\u201d after taking three weeks off post a car accident and requesting two days leave for a funeral.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the definition of a toxic work environment, where they make you feel like you\u2019re going insane and then you\u2019re like, no, everything I was feeling was right,\u201d said the former staffer, whose story was corroborated by five former employees and medical records.<\/p>\n

Another employee says they took medical for one month to check into a mental health facility after they attempted suicide. When they returned to work, they were told their position no longer existed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’d think that if someone just tried to kill themselves, you don\u2019t want to add any more stress to their lives,\u201d the employee, whose story was corroborated by four other employees and medical records, told BuzzFeed News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the producers talk openly in public about addiction and mental health awareness, but they\u2019re the reason there\u2019s a stigma,\u201d they said. \u201cThey definitely don\u2019t practice what they preach with the \u2018be kind\u2019 mantra.”<\/p>\n

All sources asked to remain anonymous for fear they would be blacklisted by the daytime talk show and the fickle entertainment
