Another day, another piece of brilliant ’90s fashion nostalgia. As the decade continues to steer modern fashion, today’s dose comes via model, activist and major nineties fan<\/a>, Emily Ratajkowski.<\/p>\n

Walking around the streets of New York City with husband Sebastian and their rescue dog Colombo, Ratajkowski<\/a> wore one of the biggest trends of the era: a handkerchief top. She paired the chunky knitted black handkerchief top with a pair of low-riding baggy denim jeans (another nineties staple), white sneaker and cat-eye lens, her hairstyle also recalling the decade with face-framing tendrils.<\/p>\n

By Australian label Stone, the hand-knitted top features a tie-up halter neck and exposed back<\/a>, plus of course, an exposed midriff – the calling card of any handkerchief style.<\/p>\n

But while always boasting a cropped facade, the neckline of the handkerchief top varied. There were the strapless versions \u00e0 la Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Aniston, who wore this sateen one to the SAG Awards in 1999.<\/p>\n

With both midriff and back on display, the handkerchief top was best served with a pair of low-riders, some so low (we’re looking at you Christina), they should have been illegal.<\/p>\n
