While watching HBO Max’s new series And Just Like That<\/em><\/a>, it’s easy to see that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong>), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong>) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis<\/strong>) are a little bit older \u2014 and maybe wiser.<\/p>\n

The ladies are in a new stage of life \u2014 so much so, Miranda decides to sport her natural hair color<\/a>, though it may not be red anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wanted to embrace her gray \u2026 to say, \u2018This is who I am. Deal with it; it makes me no less than a woman,\u201d the show\u2019s hair department head, Nakoya Yancey<\/strong>, told Page Six Style<\/a>. <\/em>\u201cI love the way [showrunner Michael Patrick King<\/strong>] wanted to spotlight that because we all get older. [These characters] aren\u2019t in their 30s anymore! You can\u2019t help but embrace it<\/a> \u2014 it\u2019s there, it\u2019s obvious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite some negative comments about the character’s looks, Yancey believes that it’s important to show what women are going through on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like those people are unrealistic. Everybody ages<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019re gonna [go] gray; that\u2019s just the reality of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the series, Miranda said Carrie is 55 years old<\/a>, and according to internet sleuths, Charlotte and Miranda are around 54 and 56 years old, respectively.<\/p>\n

“I like that we\u2019re not trying to youthify the show,” Nixon stated. “We\u2019re not including, like, a 21-year-old niece.”<\/p>\n

King also believes it’s important to be confident in who you are<\/a> \u2014 no matter how you look.<\/p>\n

“When we announced\u00a0And Just Like That<\/em>, there were a lot of\u00a0positive reactions, but one b**chy response online\u00a0was people sharing pictures of the\u00a0Golden Girls<\/em>,” he recalled. “And I was like, \u2018Wow, so it\u2019s either you\u2019re 35, or you\u2019re retired and living in Florida. There\u2019s a missing chapter here.'”<\/p>\n

Parker also hopes that the double standard can disappear one day.<\/p>\n

“Everyone has something to say: \u2018She has too many wrinkles, she doesn\u2019t have enough wrinkles.\u2019 It almost feels as if people don\u2019t want us to be perfectly OK with where we are, as if\u00a0they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better,” the mom-of-three shared. “I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop aging<\/a>?
