To be honest, it’s JW Anderson’s world\u2014and we’re all just along for the ride. With every season, whether at Loewe or at his eponymous label, Anderson continues to carve out a space all his own. There’s always an element of camp, re-imaging and exploring traditional\u00a0silhouettes turning them upside down (and inside out at times), adding to the conversation of “is fashion art?”, and playfulness\u2014which is so vital, especially at times like this. For his latest menswear offering, Fall-Winter 2022′, Anderson delivers a lineup of whimsical delights.\u00a0Sequin trousers, ribbon-tied crop-tops, elephant motifs, knits with looping circles (almost resembling scrunchies), and something we didn’t have on our 2022 mood-board at all; making the case for men\u2019s Mary Jane shoes. Yes, the shoes you wore as a kid to private school, church, and for more formal occasions!\u00a0We discussed Kidcore<\/a> last week and this collection takes that concept even further.<\/p>\n

The dual Fall-Winter menswear and women’s Pre-Fall 2022′ collections were presented digitally this season, showing models strut through a Bauhaus-inspired nightclub backlit by hues of red, blue, and yellow. Exaggerated knit sweater dresses with embroidered elephants, polo short sets, coat dresses with tubular hems (almost resembling a balloon animal snake), an amplified denim shirt dress with leather paddle boots\u2014this was an exploration of exuberant motifs that pushed the bounds of menswear and hyper-masculinity. It’s one of the many things the Northern Irish designer is known for; challenging the viewers’ and customers’ relationship to fashion. From stilettos with eggshells for heels and bags designed in the shape of a baseball hat to making Birkenstocks an “it” shoe again\u2014Anderson continues to welcome us into his magical emporium.<\/p>\n

Now the question is will we be seeing the JW Anderson Mary Jane shoe on the feet of men everywhere next season?<\/p>\n
