But while the <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/jay-z-beyonce-tiffany-co\/\">About Love<\/a> video was an important moment in showcasing the deceased artist, it looks like 2022 will be full of Basquiat-centered content.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34771\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34771\" style=\"width: 823px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-34771\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/09\/beyonce-tiffany-about-love.png?w=300\" alt=\"About Love\" width=\"823\" height=\"658\" data-gz_credit=\"Credit: Tiffany &amp;amp; Co.\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beyonc\u0117 and Jay-Z pose with a Jean-Paul Basquiat for Tiffany &amp; Co. &#8220;About Love&#8221; campaign<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Directed by Julius Onah, who has previously worked with the likes of Spike Lee and J.J. Abrams,\u00a0<em>Samo Lives<\/em>, a biopic about the life and work of Basquiat, is in the works for this year. The title,\u00a0<em>Samo Lives<\/em>, pays homage to the mantle that Basquiat used as a graffiti artist on the streets of New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimply put, Jean-Michel Basquiat\u2019s work and life has been an absolute inspiration. When I began to learn about him at the age of 14 it was incredible to discover someone who boldly forged his own path into a world where most who didn\u2019t fit the expected profile of a fine artist had been unable to (i.e. white and male).&#8221; Onah said in a director\u2019s statement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/samolives.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">website<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<i>Samo Lives<\/i>. &#8220;Though I could not yet fully appreciate the enormity of what Jean-Michel\u2019s achievements meant, I could certainly feel there was something so groundbreaking and unique about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46695\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46695\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-46695\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/01\/body-img-5.jpg?w=226\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"1088\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 &#8211; 1988), circa 1985. Onah goes on to talk about the importance of the 1996\u00a0<em>Basquiat<\/em> biopic, starring Jeffrey Wright as Jean-Michel and David Bowie as Andy Warhol, in his education about the artist and his work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The older I got and the more I learned about Jean-Michel, the more I began to feel his story hadn\u2019t fully been told in cinema.&#8221; Onah said. &#8220;Never have we seen the full spectrum of Basquiat\u2019s incredible life as a Black artist and a child of the immigrant African diaspora.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46696\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46696\" style=\"width: 817px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-46696\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/01\/body-img-2-1.jpg?w=295\" alt=\"\" width=\"817\" height=\"828\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46696\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Bowie, portraying Andy Warhol, performs a scene with Jeffrey Wright, portraying Jean-Michel Basquiat, in the 1996 motion picture Basquiat, directed by artist Julian Schnabel. A new exhibition, titled King Pleasure, is set to hit the New York City gallery scene when it opens on April 9, 2022 at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Organized and curated by the family of Jean-Michel Basquiat, this exhibition of over 200 never-before-seen and rarely shown paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations, ephemera, and artifacts tell the story of Jean-Michel from an intimate perspective,&#8221; a statement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/kingpleasure.basquiat.com\/#location\" target=\"_blank\">King Pleasure website<\/a> reads. &#8220;Intertwining his artistic endeavors with his personal life, influences, and the times in which he lived.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46712\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46712\" style=\"width: 817px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-46712\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/01\/body-img-3-1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"817\" height=\"651\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fred Brathwaite (Fab 5 Freddy) and Jean Michel Basquiat at Anita Sarko&#8217;s Voodoo Party at the Palladium. (Photo by Patrick McMullan\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On top of King Pleasure and\u00a0<em>Samo Lives<\/em>, there is a stage adaptation in the works following the relationship between pop artist Andy Warhol and Basquiat, in particular the story of a hyped exhibition starring the two artists that ultimately was snubbed by reviews.
