While fans were over the moon to hear that three out of four of the main characters on Sex and the City<\/em><\/a> \u2014 Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong>), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis<\/strong>) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong>) \u2014 would be returning to HBO Max’s new series And Just Like That<\/em><\/a>, Nixon admitted that she wasn’t originally on board at first.<\/p>\n

“I really didn’t think I was going to do it. I was very reluctant,” the 55-year-old told the Herald Sun<\/em><\/a>. “But the more I talked to Sarah Jessica, [writer and creator] Michael Patrick King<\/strong> and Kristin about the things that I couldn’t go back without \u2014 a real sea of change in terms of the lack of diversity in the original series \u2014 they were on board.”<\/p>\n

The actress “was floored by how hard everybody listened and how collaboratively we worked together to not just redecorate the house but to build a whole new house, one that had us in it but new characters<\/a>, too.”<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the TV star wants the storylines to be relatable to what others may be going through in their 50s<\/a>. “The characters are 55 so they’re in menopause. And menopause is the punchline to a lot of jokes and certainly has its unpleasant aspects,” she shared “But it’s a time when women have spent decades looking after other people and can again focus on themselves: ‘Who am I? Who do I want to be?'”<\/p>\n

During this season<\/a>, Miranda has to navigate her marriage to Steve (David Eigenberg)<\/strong>, Carrie has to deal with Mr. Big (Chris Noth<\/strong>) untimely passing, while Charlotte is learning how to be the best mother possible.<\/p>\n

Nixon is just happy that she is back with her costars and that their characters are able to resonate with others.<\/p>\n

“[It’s a] creative connection with my sisters that you never get as an actor<\/a> where you get to work together for 20-something years. I’m very proud of the original series \u2014 despite it being occasionally tone deaf on race and gender \u2014 but Sex and the City\u00a0<\/em>gave me an adult career. And I’ll always be grateful for that,” she gushed, adding that the franchise is “the gift that keeps on giving forever and ever.”<\/p>\n
