An excerpt<\/a> from upcoming book Finding Freedom<\/em> is setting the record straight on one burning question: What was the relationship between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle really like when they both lived under one roof at Kensington Palace?<\/p>\n

Authored by respected royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the book gives the most detail we\u2019ve had to date on the Markle\u2019s relationship with Middleton. According to the expert duo, the two women were never feuding, they just didn\u2019t know each other well.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,\u201d the two reporters wrote. \u201cTheir relationship hadn\u2019t progressed much since [Markle] was Harry\u2019s girlfriend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scobie and Durand write that Middleton didn\u2019t make a big effort with Markle in the way people had perhaps expected. They said Markle had envisioned the Duchess of Cambridge guiding her through things she would need to know as \u201can outsider to the firm\u201d but that it never happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn\u2019t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn\u2019t losing sleep over it,\u201d they write. The book says Middleton did send Markle flowers for her birthday one year but that \u201cMeghan would far rather have had Kate check in on her during the most difficult times with the press.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source told the reporters that Middleton felt she didn\u2019t have anything in common with the other \u201cother than the fact that they lived at Kensington Palace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Middleton \u201cdid little to bridge the divide\u201d between Prince William and Prince Harry when William reportedly told his brother he was moving too quickly with Markle. As a result, the Princes had a falling out and while the reporters say it wasn\u2019t \u201cnecessarily [Middleton\u2019s] responsibility\u201d to mend things, they did note she is \u201cfiercely loyal to her husband and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several Royal staffers also confirmed the famous fitting story (where Markle reportedly made Middleton cry during a fitting for her wedding) was \u201cridiculous and so false.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are people, whether they work with the family or are members of the family, that know that a lot of this stuff isn\u2019t true, and aren\u2019t allowed to say anything, like that ridiculous story about Meg and Catherine and the bridesmaids\u2019 dresses,\u201d a \u201cconfidant\u201d told the authors.<\/p>\n

While we will never really<\/em> know the whole truth of this very intriguing relationship, Finding Freedom <\/em>is the closest we’ve gotten to the happenings inside the palace walls.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Markle and Prince Harry has denied that the couple had anything to do with the book. \u201cThe Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom,<\/em>\u201d it reads. \u201cThis book is based on the authors\u2019 own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent
