Yes, the Golden Globes<\/a> are still happening. In the wake of the LA Times<\/em>\u2019 bombshell<\/a> investigation of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association<\/a> earlier this year, NBC announced that it wouldn\u2019t air the 2022 show. But the HFPA is soldiering on nonetheless, and today announced the nominees for their 79th annual awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

While a lot of us who cover Hollywood and awards shows for a living are wondering how much attention we should be paying to this year\u2019s Golden Globes, we\u2019re also pretty much universally paying attention to them, party out of habit and, probably, partly out of morbid curiosity. All of which is to say that, for better or worse, the Globes remain the unofficial kick-off to awards season and our first indicator of what the Oscars<\/a> race might look like\u2014albeit a very flawed indicator. Whatever you may think of the HFPA\u2014and, honestly, I\u2019m not sure how much the general viewing public actually thinks of the HFPA at all\u2014a lot of the films, shows and performances this particular group of awards voters have chosen to honor are worth seeing. And luckily, a lot of them are streaming right now.<\/p>\n
