Today Chanel<\/a> showed its breathtaking M\u00e9tiers d’Art 2022 Show at an unexpected venue. Creative director Virginie Viard<\/a> has decided to bring the luxury maison back home to a new venue where dreams are quite literally made of. The venue in question is Le 19M, an artisan hub opened in March by the luxury label and houses eleven of its most treasured artisans \u2013 from sequin embroiderers to feather trimmers<\/a>, master shoe-makers to milliners and goldsmiths.<\/p>\n

The more we learn about 19M, the more it makes perfect sense as the backdrop for the collection. Each year, during Chanel’s M\u00e9tiers d’Art show, Creative director Virginie Viard highlights the work of its talented artisans. So instead of a love letter to the craft in show notes, Viard decided to bring guests including Sofia Coppola, Lucy Boynton, and Vanessa Paradis to the very heart of it all — not to mention the space is too remarkable not to show off.<\/p>\n

\nThe palatial Rudy Ricciotti-designed seven-floor building features a garden, beautiful passageways, and a soon-to-be gallery and is intentionally designed to appear as if wrapped in thread. Everything Chanel does comes with significant meaning and tribute to its founder. The number 19 in its name stands for the 19th Arrondissement, which Le 19M is located, and Gabrielle Chanel’s birthday, Aug. 19, 1883. Chanel mentions the “M” stands for m\u00e9tiers, mode (fashion), mains (hands), manufactures, and maisons \u2014 all words related to the luxury houses craft.<\/p>\n

The 59 piece collection also draws inspiration from 19M building Embroidery mimicking the thread-like columns on knit silhouettes. At the same time, the house’s signature black and white tweed goes street, mixing its sophistication with a twist of urban paying tribute to its outer city locale. Garments are seen graffitied with embroiderer Lesage’s delicate beadwork.<\/p>\n
