There\u2019s the argument that in a heterosexual dating scenario, if equality is what we\u2019re after, why should one party be expected to &#8216;be a gentleman&#8217; and pay for someone who they\u2019ve just met? Then there\u2019s the unfortunate fact that equality isn\u2019t anywhere near where we\u2019re at and women are likely to be making less than men\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/jennifer-lawrence-leonardo-dicaprio-pay-b1962605.html\" target=\"_blank\">even Jennifer Lawrence makes less than Leonardo DiCaprio when she&#8217;s the top-billed actor!<\/a>\u2014so perhaps the man in the scenario, if there is one, should pay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s the rule some people follow: if you are the one who does the asking out, you should be the one who pays (I concur. I think?). And there are others, of course, who find it condescending and rude when someone won\u2019t let them split the bill. This debacle naturally gets a lot more confusing in non-binary or same-sex situations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Confused about where you stand? Me too. You take the first date, I&#8217;ll take the second?!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/hailey-bieber-birthday-ysl-velvet\/\">Hailey Bieber<\/a> bravely tackled the question head-on when getting candid about dating red flags in an appearance on <em>The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/em> with Insecure actress Yvonne Orji. During a game, the pair held up a red flag whenever they thought something was a big no-no in a relationship. They both agreed to the first question: that a partner going through your phone is a red flag, and Bieber candidly admitted to being a &#8220;big, fat red flag for that one&#8221; for doing it before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think if you\u2019re going to be in a relationship with someone and they can\u2019t trust you and that\u2019s why they\u2019re going through your phone, then\u2026\u201d she trailed off. Orji said yes\u2014she wants someone who\u2019s working on themself\u2014while Bieber noted she wouldn\u2019t necessarily say it\u2019s a red flag because therapy isn\u2019t something that\u2019s accessible to everyone. \u201cBut I would say,\u201d she caveats. \u201cThat if you\u2019re in a very serious relationship with someone, you\u2019re engaged or you\u2019re heading towards being married, I think getting into therapy is something that\u2019s really important.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next question\u2014they ask to split the bill with you 50\/50\u2014the pair disagreed too: Orji popped her red flag straight up, saying, \u201cWell, that\u2019s not a date!\u201d While Bieber kept hers down. \u201cHear me out!,\u201d Bieber said. \u201cYou get asked out on a date. You\u2019re a strong, independent woman who earns her own money.
