In a music industry known for the exploitation of its female artists, having the designated Queen of Pop on your side can\u2019t hurt. While Britney Spears has spent the last 13 years in a rigidly restrictive conservatorship, a searing light was cast upon the severity of singer\u2019s situation this summer as the #FreeBritney movement picked up steam. As fans made their voices heard, and an onslaught of revealing documentaries were released, fellow celebrities took to social media to break their silence on the matter. Madonna, in particular, has been a staunch defender of Spears since the beginning and has taken her friendship and advocacy far beyond the realms of social media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDeath to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries,\u201d Madonna posted. \u201cThis is a violation of human rights! Britney we [are] coming to get you out of jail!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Spears\u2019 controversial conservatorship officially came to a close on November 12th, Madonna is reportedly determined to help Britney seek reparations for the long-term abuse she\u2019s had to withstand from both her family and her management. <\/span>Britney recently took to Instagram to express<\/a>, \u201cHonestly it still blows my mind every day I wake up how my family and the conservatorship were able to do what they did to me…it was demoralizing and degrading!!!! I\u2019m not even mentioning all the bad things they did to me which they should be in jail for…yes including my church going mother!!!!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the \u201cBaby One More Time\u201d singer was completely isolated from the outside world during her guardianship, the pop stars have allegedly kept in touch throughout Spears\u2019 recent legal battles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The pair met at one of Madonna\u2019s concerts in 2001 and the rest is MTV VMA history. Two years later, they would go on to perform at the Video Music Awards alongside Christina Aguilera where they would infamously share a kiss onstage. Later that year, Britney would feature Madonna on her <\/span>In the Zone<\/span><\/i> track, \u201cMe Against the Music<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With artists like Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj all having made valid arguments about the misogyny wreaking havoc within the music industry, injustices like Kesha\u2019s sexual assault claims against her producer Dr. Luke and Taylor Swift\u2019s fight to own the rights of her own music are just a few examples as to why female artists need to stick together and support one another.
