Of all the makeup products, I really do feel concealer has the toughest gig. It’s not really fun in the way a cream blush or red lipstick can be. Instead it’s a functional product with the sole purpose of concealing blemishes, dark circles, redness and uneven skin tone. It’s for these reasons that it has to be perfect. Too thin and it won’t cover anything, too thick and it will crease or worse, exacerbate the issue. If it’s too emollient it won’t adhere, too dry it will crack. Basically, it has to be the perfect storm of pigment, coverage and finish – a holy beauty trinity that’s easier said than done.<\/p>\n

Further to the above, I also believe it beneficial to have different concealers for different parts of the face<\/a>, namely the eye area. Basically, the eye is the most notoriously difficult place to conceal because the skin is thin and prone to fine lines, so creasing is high risk. I often forgo under-eye concealing all together, not because I’m bright-eyed but because a dark circle is better than patchy coverage, but a certain new discovery has me hopeful that this might not be the case for much longer.<\/p>\n

La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Perfect Concealer launched a few months ago, and I jumped at the opportunity to try it because I’m a HUGE fan of the existing cushion compact (light, dewy, healthy coverage all in one neat little package). The formula comes housed in a brilliant La Prairie<\/a> blue bullet with a cooling metal applicator one end, pop-out concealer brush on the other (genius). The concealer itself contains caviar water, caviar extract and the brand’s signature Cellular Complex – a resulting blend of moisture and luminosity for a brighter, smoother eye area. The pigment is solid but the texture light, so it almost melts into the skin for coverage that looks seamless and won’t crease – an attribute I can attest to. The recommended use is to apply with the cool tip – I like to move from the inner corner of my eye outwards for a mini-massage – and blend with the brush. I finished by pressing lightly in with fingers just to ensure it was really cohesive. The only pain points are the color range – deeper skin tones will have issue finding a suitable hue – and the price. At $270, it’s steep, but considering it’s 6 ml and contains a wealth of skincare benefits (plus the packaging is much sleeker than most) it might be worth considering if you’re locked in an uphill battle with blue-ish under eyes.<\/p>\n
