Our current cultural moment is defined by questions of travel: who can travel, where we can travel to, how do we navigate the various impediments and restrictions that make travel possible… And so where better to stage a fashion show than in an actual airport? This was Herm\u00e8s creative director Nad\u00e8ge Vanhee-Cybulski<\/a>\u2019s thinking: she presented the brand\u2019s Spring\/Summer 2022<\/a> collection in an airport hangar at Le Bourget airport, located in the outer suburbs of Paris. The French film critic Philippe Azoury penned the show notes, printed in both French and English, which told the story of a woman readying herself to travel for the first time in a long time: \u201cIt\u2019s summertime,\u201d read the final lines. \u201cThe sky is yours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This theme\u2013chasing endless horizons\u2014was echoed in the sets, soft peach-hued panoramas painted by the artist Flora Moscovini, and in the music too: a cover of The Beatles\u2019 \u2018Across the Universe\u2019 (\u201cImages of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes\u201d). As for the clothes, Vahnee-Cybulski riffed on more casual silhouettes, dresses and skirts with elasticated drawstring waists, soft apron jumpsuits with brown leather trim, bralette and skirt sets printed with the brand\u2019s signature horsebit motif.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All this mixed, of course, with quintessentially Herm\u00e8s staples: exceptional leather coats, sharp tailored suiting, quilted separates. Pieces were finished in sunset shades: buttery yellows and soft oranges, with added nods to the brand\u2019s heritage courtesy of studs and leather buckles. The whole thing was easy luxury personified. And if the collection itself wasn\u2019t enough to remind attendees that the independently-owned <\/span>maison<\/span><\/i> is a brand that remains at the pinnacle of the global luxury market, Herm\u00e8s chartered an aeroplane to land at the precise moment of the runway finale. Long live the art of travel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
