Australian reporter Jonathan Swan\u2019s refusal to accept Donald Trump\u2019s outlandish responses to his questions has consequentially seen the President stumble through what is being called another \u201cdamaging\u201d interview.<\/p>\n

Swan, who is the 34-year-old son of Australian coronavirus guru Dr Norman Swan and a political reporter for Axios,<\/em> asked Trump a series of questions about the US\u2019 poor response to the pandemic. When the President described the situation as \u201cunder control,\u201d Swan swiftly responded \u201cHow? A thousand Americans are dying a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are dying. That\u2019s true. And you \u2013 it is what it is,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t mean we aren\u2019t doing everything we can. It\u2019s under control as much as you can control it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps my favorite part of the interview was when Trump, looking at a number of graphs on sheets of paper, told Swan the \u201cUnited States is the lowest in numerous categories. We\u2019re lower than the world. Lower than Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLower than the world?\u201d Swan retorts with the most baffled look on his face. \u201cIn what? Oh, you\u2019re doing death as a proportion of cases. I\u2019m talking about death as a proportion of population. That\u2019s where the US is really bad. Much worse than Germany, South Korea.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t do that,\u201d Trump replies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy can\u2019t I do that?\u201d Swan says. And his face is most Americans right now.<\/p>\n
