The case is no different when it came to Eritrean-born, NYC-based designer \u00c1wet Woldegebrie of his eponymous label, \u00c1wet New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Born out of the pandemic, \u00c1wet&#8217;s mission statement focuses on two commitments: harness the craftsmanship of garment workers to support them through the pandemic and create an iconic &#8220;Livewear&#8221; collection. But that&#8217;s not where the story stops, nor begins. As a child \u00c1wet grew up loving textiles (being that his dad was a tailor). In 1998 his family fled Eritrea and Ethiopia and moved around refugee camps until 2000 when he was granted asylum in the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36400\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36400\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36400\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/09\/awet-collection-1.png\" alt=\"\u00c3\u0081wet New York\" width=\"1024\" height=\"819\" data-gz_credit=\"Credit: \u00c1wet New York\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo from \u00c1wet New York lookbook<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00c1wet&#8217;s dedication is seen through his mastery in creating ethically sourced garments through a production commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The effortlessly aesthetic, minimalistic approach to sweats and tees, makes it a no-brainer why the collection has been a hit.
