Before TMZ, and before Kim Kardashian, there was the red swimsuit-striding Pamela Anderson and her Jack-guzzling beau Tommy Lee; a couple known for their fast-paced hedonistic lifestyle and a well-documented penchant for pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n

Even without social media, sartorial history was made in 1999 when Anderson rocked up at the MTV Video Music Awards in an affixation-inducing corset and pink fluffy hat. (It was the blue eyeshadow that set it off for me. Ironically, Kardashian dressed up as Anderson for Halloween a couple of years ago. Just weeks prior, she had ridiculed her older sister Kourtney for looking \u201clike a f***ing clown\u201d with her cobalt eyelids, but alas, there she was in her Anderson-inspired blue-toned glory.)<\/p>\n

Today, Kacey Musgraves arrived at the 2021 MTV VMAs in a purple Valentino couture mini dress and red gloves. Her hat \u2013 a Philip Treacy X Pierpaolo Piccioli spring 2018 creation made from dyed feathers \u2013 seemed a nod to the peacocking style star Anderson. Did it eclipse the 1999 style moment? Perhaps. In the place of the Baywatch<\/em> star\u2019s blue eyeshadow, a lavender hue which was achieved by the singer\u2019s makeup artist Moani Lee, who used Pat McGrath Labs. Take a look:<\/p>\n

Off the back of the release of her latest album, the 33-year-old country star performed her track \u201cStar-Crossed\u201d at the VMAs this evening. And while we\u2019re speaking about channeling our 90s obsessions, many have likened the singer\u2019s white dress to the 1996 Romeo + Juliet <\/em>film. The stage inside the Barclay Centre came to light with a flaming heart.<\/p>\n
