The past nine days since Mike Richards was officially selected as the host of Jeopardy!<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 and the successor to Alex Trebek\u2019s enduring legacy<\/a> \u2014 has been distressingly marked with a bevy of scandals and fan discontentment. In an unsurprising turn of events, Richards\u2019 short-lived tenure has come to an end.<\/p>\n

After Richards (who currently serves as an executive producer on the show) was officially tapped alongside The Big Bang Theory\u00a0<\/em>actress\u00a0Mayim Bialik for the coveted position, fans decried the selection as a grave instance of company favoritism.\u00a0With the cycle of celebrity tryouts behind the lectern featuring Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric and the internet\u2019s front runner\u00a0LeVar Burton, many pointed to Richard\u2019s lackluster resonance with the trivia game show\u2019s viewership. Criticism from the fans, however, was also accompanied by a wave of scandals and workplace allegations.<\/p>\n

Richards\u2019 exit comes just one day after Anti-Defamation League called for an investigation into \u201cpattern\u201d of offensive comments after The Ringer<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reported that he made \u201cdisparaging remarks about Jews, women & Asians\u201d on the comedy podcast \u201cThe Randumb Show\u201d he hosted from 2013 and 2014.<\/p>\n

According to The Ringer<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>report, a review of all 41 episodes of the podcast \u2014 which were available online until every episode was pulled on Tuesday — revealed that Richards repeatedly used sexist, offensive language and disparaged women\u2019s bodies. In a 2014 episode regarding the iCloud hack of intimate celebrity photos, Richards asked his female assistant and co-host if they had ever taken nude photographs or \u201cbooby pictures.\u201d He would later ask to go through her phone and she declined to share the images with him.<\/p>\n

In his former time as EP of\u00a0The Price Is Right,<\/em>\u00a0Richards was involved in an alarming lawsuit where the show\u2019s models alleged that he discriminated\u00a0against them for being pregnant. In recent memo obtained by\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>, Richards wrote to the\u00a0Jeopardy!\u00a0<\/em>staff, \u201dI want you all to know that the way in which my comments and actions have been characterized in these complaints does not reflect the reality of who I am or how we worked together on\u00a0The Price is Right.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe support Mike\u2019s decision to step down as host,\u201d Sony Pictures TV said in a statement via Variety<\/a><\/em>. \u201cWe were surprised this week to learn of Mike\u2019s 2013\/2014 podcast and the offensive language he used in the past.\u00a0 We have spoken with him about our concerns and our expectations moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

In their statement which noted that the search for a new host, Sony continued, \u201cMike has been with us for the last two years and has led the \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 team through the most challenging time the show has ever experienced.
