When Yoon Ahn first began dabbling in jewelry design, she did so ever so freely and on her own schedule. \u201c[My husband Verbal] and I weren\u2019t bound by time, we weren\u2019t bound by anything,\u201d she told French Vogue <\/em><\/a>in 2018. \u201cWe\u2019d just drop [a collection] when we felt like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tapped by Kanye West and Dior\u2019s Kim Jones, Yoon has been a fixture on the cult jewelry scene for some years now. But it\u2019s the Korean-American designer\u2019s collab with Bulgari that has people talking today. The capsule collection sees Yoon \u2013 who now goes by a singular name like Madonna and has her own label Ambush \u2013 take the venerable Italian luxury brand\u2019s iconic snake and reinterpret key pieces through her unique lens; the Serpenti top handle shoulder bag, the Serpenti belt bag and the Serpenti minaudi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this capsule collection I wanted to express the bold and contemporary character of Serpenti,\u201d Yoon explains. \u201cSnakes are wondrous and fascinating creatures of nature but with Bulgari they also became a symbol of glamour in constant evolution. Natural beauty meets human creation, all guided by a contemporary aesthetic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yoon\u2019s iterations of this classic aesthetic unlocks another chapter of the \u201cSerpenti Through The Eyes Of\u2026\u201d series (which launched in 2017). Yoon\u2019s version of Bulgari\u2019s famous snake was inspired by the tree python, a reptile native to the jungles and grassy marshes of South East Asia.<\/p>\n

Fashioned in bold colors (read: cobalt blue, amethyst purple and bright green) and made with soft quilted Nappa leather, the snake is playful and fun \u2013 an urban approach that Bulgari\u2019s Accessory Unit Managing Director, Mireia Lopez Montoya, describes as an \u201centirely unexpected result.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo collaborate with a young, powerful woman like Yoon is for Bulgari an incredibly inspiring experience,\u201d Lopez Montoya says. \u201cThe visionary designer has reimagined our [Serpenti] icon of glamour with her unbridled creative approach\u2026Once more, the Bulgari snake amazes and surprises.\u201d<\/p>\n

The coveted limited edition won\u2019t last for long and while the Serpenti top handle shoulder bag and Serpenti belt bag are everyday staples (we’re obsessed with their hardware), it\u2019s the heart-shaped Serpenti minaudi\u00e8re in black Nappa leather or aluminium which will see many evenings at a bar when we indeed inhabit them again.<\/p>\n
