This week, people all over the world have been celebrating Non-Binary Awareness Week. In the days leading up to and following International Non-Binary People\u2019s Day on Wednesday, July 14, the struggles, accomplishments and existence<\/em> of those who identify as gender non-binary\u2014i.e. folks who don\u2019t identify as male or female, whose gender identity and expression are more complicated or fluid\u2014have been at the forefront of many of our minds.<\/p>\n

For many, it\u2019s been a chance to learn more about a gender identity with which they may have been less familiar. Celebs like Emma Corrin<\/a> and Drag Race UK<\/em> contestant Bimini Bon Boulash shared social media posts<\/a> clarifying the term for the uninitiated: \u201cNon-binary refers to a range of gender identities that aren\u2019t man or woman (i.e. the binary genders). There\u2019s no singular way to identify with the label or its meaning\u2014some non-binary people identify more closely with masculinity or femininity, with both or with neither.\u201d For others, it\u2019s been a chance to celebrate their own identity, and advocate for legal recognition.<\/p>\n

But celebrating non-binary gender and gender fluidity shouldn\u2019t just be isolated to a single week. As we come to the end of Non-Binary Awareness Week, we\u2019re highlighting some fabulous non-binary celebs and influencers that you should follow all year round.<\/p>\n

\nIn May, the \u201cCool for the Summer\u201d singer kicked off their new podcast, \u201c4D with Demi Lovato,\u201d by coming out<\/a> as non-binary and revealing that they now use \u201cthey\/them\u201d pronouns. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing more freeing, for me, than to be unattached to a role that society wants me to play,\u201d they said at the time. \u201cI fully believe that gender is just another boundary that separates humanity from divine wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n
