Not long after we heard from Spears\u2019s younger sister <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/jamie-lynn-spears-britney-spears-testimony\/\">Jamie Lynn<\/a>, the \u201cWhat a Girl Wants\u201d singer posted an open letter on social media weighing in on the disturbing allegations in Britney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/britney-spears-speaks-court\/\">statement<\/a> before a L.A. Superior Court judge last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese past few days I\u2019ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,\u201d Aguilera wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/xtina\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter thread<\/a>. \u201cIt is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">These past few days I\u2019ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through. <\/p>\n<p>It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NRhNwcJaD3\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/NRhNwcJaD3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Christina Aguilera (@xtina) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/xtina\/status\/1409673265769893889?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">June 29, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Aguilera joins a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-57593525\" target=\"_blank\">growing chorus<\/a> of celebrities\u2014including <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/mariah-carey-naomi-campbell-youtube-series\/\">Mariah Carey<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/halsey-nine-inch-nails\/\">Halsey<\/a> and Brandy\u2014speaking out in support of Spears\u2019s effort to end the 13-year conservatorship that she says has left her with little control over her own career, finances and even reproductive health. In her bombshell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/06\/24\/1009858617\/britney-spears-transcript-court-hearing-conservatorship\" target=\"_blank\">testimony<\/a> last week, the 39-year-old Spears claimed that her \u201cteam\u201d would not even allow her to make an appointment to have her IUD removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness,\u201d Aguilera wrote in response.<\/p>\n<p>In the late \u201990s, Spears and Aguilera ruled the pop landscape. They were even both seemingly anointed by <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/last-pride-madonna\/\">Madonna<\/a> in an infamous MTV Video Music Awards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xJQM89lmngc\" target=\"_blank\">performance<\/a>. But the two singers go back even further. They appeared together on the early \u201990s Mickey Mouse Club reboot, alongside many of their pop music contemporaries. Aguilera included a photo of the two of them as teens from around that time in her tweet thread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control,\u201d Aguilera wrote of Spears\u2019s statement. \u201cMy heart goes out to Britney.
