Following years of the #FreeBritney movement<\/a>, the 39-year-old has finally spoken publicly on the controversial conservatorship at the hands of her father, Jamie Spears. Appearing via phone link at a Los Angeles court today, the pop star detailed the alleged abuse which included being kept in a drugged state for years. She also strongly advised that her father “should be in jail”.<\/p>\n

In a transcript obtained and published by\u00a0TMZ<\/a> and\u00a0<\/em>The New York Times<\/a>, <\/em>Spears spoke of the shocking treatment. Extracts of the prepared statement are below.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people who did this to me should not be able to get away and walk away easily,” Spears began.<\/p>\n

In response to a number of social media posts where Spears spoke out against a number of documentaries and the media<\/a>, the singer admitted she was pretending to be okay.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter I\u2019ve told the whole world I\u2019m okay, it\u2019s a lie. I\u2019m not happy, I can\u2019t sleep, I\u2019m depressed, I cry every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe same lady has been giving me my medication for 8 years… I was out on lithium,” Spears said of drug abuse. “They took me off my same drugs for 5 years and put me on lithium\u2026it is a strong drug\u2026it was like I was drunk.\u201d<\/p>\n
