Over the past few days, videos of a young 13- or 14-year-old Billie Eilish<\/a> have surfaced on <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a> appearing to show the singer using or mouthing a racial slur and making fun of non-English speakers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In one video, Eilish is seen singing along to Tyler the Creator\u2019s song, \u201cFish,\u201d which uses the anti-Asian slur \u201cch***.\u201d In another, TikTokers allege Eilish is mocking and making fun of non-native English speakers\u2019 accents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After fans called for the 19-year-old to address the viral clips, on Monday night Eilish posted a message to her 87 million-plus followers on Instagram.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I love you guys, and many of you have been asking me to address this. And this is something I WANT to address because I’m being labeled something that I am not,” Eilish began.<\/span><\/p>\n

She then addressed the video, writing, “There’s a video edit going around of me when I was 13 or 14 where I mouthed a word from a song that at the time I didn’t know was a derogatory term used against members of the Asian community. I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“This song is the only time I’d ever heard that word as it was never used around me by anyone in my family,” Eilish continued. “Regardless of the ignorance and age at the time, nothing excuses the fact that it was hurtful. And for that I am sorry.”<\/span><\/p>\n
