(Photo by Emma McIntyre\/Getty Images for MTV)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like most of the world, I still am in so much shock over Chadwick Boseman\u2019s unexpected passing.<\/p>\n<p>Diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016, the <em>Black Panther<\/em> star chose to undergo \u201ccountless surgeries and chemotherapy\u201d away from the public eye. Sadly, the cancer progressed to stage five and on Saturday evening, it was announced the 43-year-old had passed away in his home with his wife and family by his side.<\/p>\n<p>A reporter for the <em>Huffington Post<\/em>, named Matthew Jacobs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tarantallegra\/status\/1299544269099802624\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a> a part of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com.au\/entry\/chadwick-boseman-thurgood-marshall_n_59de15d0e4b01df09b779dfd?ri18n=true\" target=\"_blank\">2017 interview<\/a> with Boseman today. In it, he drew attention to one question where he asked the actor about his physical transformation between roles as Thurgood Marshall in <em>Marshall<\/em> and T\u2019Challa in\u00a0<em>Black Panther<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Boseman\u2019s response appears to hint at his illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou came off of one\u00a0<em>Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0project, did\u00a0<em>Marshall<\/em>\u00a0and then made another\u00a0<em>Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0movie. Did you bulk up, slim down and then bulk up again,\u201d Jacobs asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Nods his head, looking exhausted] Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah,\u201d Boseman responds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve been through the wringer,\u201d the reporter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, you don\u2019t even know [laughs],\u201d Boseman responded. \u201cYou have no idea. One day I\u2019ll live to tell the story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chadwick Boseman Surprises Black Panther Fans While They Thank Him\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/expKmfdoo28?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Tributes have been flowing in from around the world \u2013 little children having mock funerals for their superhero to Jimmy Fallon surprising fans with Boseman in person. Even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CEejKLhgmtk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CEe7rLfgNa-\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michelle Obama<\/a> praised the change-maker.<\/p>\n<p>There are two women, however, whose words stayed with me; Olivia Wilde and Issa Rae, both of whom said they couldn\u2019t sleep because they were thinking of their dear friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouldn\u2019t sleep last night after hearing the news of his passing,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/oliviawilde\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">wrote Wilde<\/a>. \u201cCan\u2019t imagine what his family is going through. This feels like it should change everything. A new standard of being. Of working. Of persevering. We will work harder, and be better. We will be grateful for every day. We will lead with grace. Thank you for showing us the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an excellent reminder of setting the bar a little higher, even when things feel so much harder in the current climate. Further to this notion is Josh Gad&#8217;s Instagram post which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/joshgad\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Boseman\u2019s final text<\/a> to him. I don\u2019t know why this one hurts so badly,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/issarae\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">she began<\/a>. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s because we lost a literal Black superhero. Maybe it\u2019s because your grace, class, kindness and dignity is so rare. Maybe it\u2019s because you had to suffer in silence for so long, while some speculated, cruelly. Maybe it\u2019s because we didn\u2019t need to see another Black man\u2019s life cut short. Maybe it\u2019s because your Denzel-anointed legacy had so much more to offer. Maybe it\u2019s because you felt like ours with every role you chose to embody. Maybe it\u2019s because God wanted your light a bit closer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For me, it was because he brought us so many movies when he was so sick. I know <em>Black Panther<\/em> is the one being heroed right now \u2013 and rightfully so \u2013 but if anyone has seen his latest film <em>21 Bridges<\/em>, you would know there are some really intense fighting scenes throughout.
