Ellie Kemper has finally addressed the controversy that had her name trending on Twitter<\/a> last week. In an Instagram<\/a> post today, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt <\/em>star acknowledged that when she was 19, she participated in a debutante ball held by the Veiled Prophet Organization<\/a>. She also acknowledged the St. Louis organization\u2019s \u201cunquestionably racist, sexist, and elitist past\u201d and apologized for her involvement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not aware of this history at the time,\u201d Kemper wrote<\/a>, \u201cbut ignorance is no excuse. I was old enough to have educated myself before getting involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
