Phoebe Waller-Bridge has arrived at the 77th<\/sup> Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles Looking like the front woman to your favorite rock band in a tweed suit (Virginie Viard, are you responsible for this?), the 34-year-old British actress and writer is nominated for the Best Actress In A Comedy Series award for her role in the Emmy-winning TV show, Fleabag<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Anybody who has seen even the first few minutes of episode one of season one of\u00a0Fleabag<\/em> will understand when I ask: Can you imagine (presumably) pompous members of the Hollywood Foreign Press watching this show? Then again, Barack Obama did just name it one of his favorite series’ of 2019<\/a> \u2013 and he even featured in one rather compromising scene!<\/p>\n

Series two of\u00a0Fleabag<\/em> \u2013 which wrapped in April \u2013 is the final installment and peek into the life of Waller-Bridge\u2019s titular character (whose name we never come to know). It explores the Londoner\u2019s lonely life as she grapples with the death of her best friend, her troublesome family, running a rundown cafe, and navigating some pretty awful and unfulfilling relationships. But the writing is absolutely brilliant and a show like you\u2019ve never seen before. (Hello, the most confronting breakdown of the fourth wall.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI find writing really, really hard and really painful, but I\u2019d like to say just honestly from the bottom of my heart that the reason that I do it is this,\u201d Waller-Bridge said on stage at the Microsoft Theatre as she held her first Emmy in September.<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s anyone deserving of a Golden Globe tonight, it\u2019s Waller-Bridge.<\/p>\n
