For 25 years, Charlize Theron has cemented her position as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actresses. From Tom Hanks’ 90s musical bop That Thing You Do!\u00a0<\/em>to the perfectly choreographed action sequences of\u00a0Atomic Blonde\u00a0<\/em>and fan-favorite Mad Max: Fury Road,\u00a0<\/em>the 44-year-old has proved there is nothing she cannot do. But the turn of the decade marked perhaps her most important role to date.<\/p>\n Appearing in pro-woman drama,\u00a0Bombshell,\u00a0<\/em>the newly-released film follows the true tales of three employees as they come forward to accuse Fox News founder, Roger Ailes, of sexual harassment charges. Described by critics as, “scalding and powerful” and “truthful,” it comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement, which saw its viral birth in the film and television industry just two years ago during the same awards season.<\/p>\n Theron now vies for the honor of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her lead role in the captivating and honest film. Speaking on the Golden Globes 2020 red carpet<\/a>, she reflected on her nomination and its apt timing.<\/p>\n “There was something in the air. You could hear this conversation happening. Women were coming forward and being brave with their stories and it’s still strange that this was a catalyst. The women at Fox like, it is the most unlikely characters, in the most unlikely world, where this kind of feminist movement would come from, yet it did. This shows you how this is not a partisan issue.”<\/p>\n Theron continued her streak of red carpet looks with a sweeping fluorescent green gown. Cast with one shoulder and a peeking, black bustier, the distinctive contrast was finished with an elegant emerald choker and thin belt – a subtle nod to the corporate setting of Bombshell. <\/em>Her red carpet look follows a recent appearance at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala, earlier this week.<\/p>\n For the accomplished actress, a win is imminent and an extremely important one at that. In the lead up to release earlier last year, Theron opened up<\/a> about the night her mother shot and killed her father in an act of self-defense. \u201cI do think that the more we talk about these things, the more we realize we are not alone in any of it,\u201d Theron said. \u201cI think, for me, it\u2019s just always been that this story really is about growing up with addicts and what that does to a person.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch the 2020 edition of the Golden Globes ceremony from 12 noon on January 6 on Foxtel’s Arena channel.
