Benett\/Dave Benett\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At last night\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/red-carpet-2021-brit-awards\/\">BRIT Awards<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/dua-lipa-elton-john-oscars-party\/\">Elton John<\/a> and Years &amp; Years\u2019 Olly Alexander teamed up for a fabulously retro performance of Pet Shop Boys\u2019 1987 hit \u201cIt\u2019s a Sin.\u201d The duo began their cover with just Sir Elton on the keys and Alexander \u2014 wearing a black lace crop top and bell bottoms \u2014 stretched out on top of his piano, giving the song a mournful spin before exploding into its more familiar frenetic synth-pop register. What\u2019s not to love, right?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Elton John and Years &amp; Years \u2013 It\u2019s a Sin (BRIT Awards 2021 Performance)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hk4eMIswunQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On the heels of the show-stopping performance, John and Alexander released their official studio version of the song. Proceeds from the track, which was produced by superstar Stuart Price and Pet Shop Boys, will benefit the <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.eltonjohnaidsfoundation.org\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Elton John AIDS Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The single marks the second time Alexander has covered \u201cIt\u2019s a Sin.\u201d Earlier this year, he released a <a href=\"https:\/\/music.youtube.com\/watch?v=ICn-2j71Sqo&amp;list=RDAMVMICn-2j71Sqo\" target=\"_blank\">low-fi version<\/a> of the track, featuring just keys and vocals, along with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vd7pKGJuSxs\" target=\"_blank\">bedroom performance<\/a> of the song on YouTube. That cover benefited the UK\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ght.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">George House Trust<\/a>, which provides services and advocates for people living with HIV.<\/p>\n<p>The singer and actor starred in Russell T. Davies\u2019 rapturously received drama, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/its-a-sin-tv-show\/\"><em>It\u2019s a Sin<\/em><\/a>. The series, which depicts the lives of a group of queer characters navigating the height of London\u2019s HIV\/AIDS crisis, borrowed its title from the song and featured it prominently. It has since become something of an anthem, a call to arms and a eulogy for generation of British men decimated by the disease. The new duet with John combines the mournful, reflective elements of Alexander\u2019s version and the joyously defiant and undeniably camp spirit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dRHetRTOD1Q\" target=\"_blank\">the original<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That 80s exuberance is finding its way into the music Alexander is currently making as Years &amp; Years. \u201cDuring the pandemic, I wanted to listen to super upbeat club music that made me dance around,\u201d he told\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/19\/arts\/television\/olly-alexander-its-a-sin.html\" target=\"_blank\">in February<\/a>. \u201cI found myself wanting to create the fantasy and the energy that I haven\u2019t necessarily been experiencing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":29097,"featured_media":22731,"template":"","format":"standard","categories":[1154,23,38,16],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v18.5 (Yoast SEO v20.4) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Elton John and Years &amp;
