Bustiers are by no means a new thing. But make them ribbed – even knitted – and all of a sudden the boob tube game feels a little different (or at the very least, reinvented). So when Katie Holmes was seen strutting around the streets of New York City in Khaite’s ribbed Lucie Top in Cream, we suddenly felt enamored by the humble bustier once more.<\/p>\n

Holmes is blatant in her love for the brand. Remember she basically set in motion the bralette and cardi trend after photos of her hailing a cab in Khaite’s Scarlet Cardigan and Eda Bralette went viral<\/a>, and has forever loved their cult denim and knitwear. So while wearing the knitted Lucie bustier comes as no surprise – it has in fact reignited our love for sculptural yet simple bustiers.<\/p>\n

While Khaite does them particularly well (with a particularly costly price tag), the sculpted bustier is one of spring’s biggest trends with many brands jumping on the boob tube bandwagon.<\/p>\n

Melbourne’s most exciting designer Esse Studios has done a glorious ribbed cotton bustier with gathered detailing and stretch waist rib detail, while Australian fashion mainstay Bec & Bridge<\/a> has taken the squared-off, fitted nature of the boob tube and turned it into a bodysuit with cut-out back detail and long sleeves (for a little something different). Then Net-a-Porter’s<\/a> breakout star A.W.A.K.E Mode has perfected 90s minimalism with a stretchy crepe version in nude, perfect for layering.<\/p>\n

So whether it’s strapless and solo like Katie Holmes or layered over a shirt or dress, it’s time to jump on that bandwagon.<\/p>\n
