The generosity of humans makes my heart swell. It felt odd reporting on the Golden Globe Awards yesterday when so much of our editors\u2019 country \u2013 Australia \u2013 was burning. Still burning. No matter what time zone our staff is writing from \u2013 Sydney, New York, Milan, London \u2013 Australia is on fire 24\/7.<\/p>\n

But wonderfully, two worlds \u2013 Hollywood films and the land of sweeping plains\u2013 collided last night as celebrities used their acceptance speeches to draw global attention to the immediate and deathly crisis.<\/p>\n

Lots of incredible people have donated to the NSW Rural Fire Service, The Red Cross, The Salvation Army and WIRES<\/a> \u2013 if you haven\u2019t yet, you can do so here<\/a> \u2013 and for every single person, we say a huge thank you. While the Australian government seems to be more inactive than ever as literally the entire continent burns, it\u2019s been heartwarming to see and feel that little old Australia has not been forgotten by the bigwigs and the movie stars we seem so removed from, even if only geographically. (PINK donated $500,000<\/a>, as did Nicole Kidman<\/a> and that wonderful comedian, Celeste Barber, has rallied thousands of people globally to raise over $36 million for the RFS.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Last night, Joaquin Phoenix used his acceptance speech to draw attention to Australia, as did Patricia Arquette. But Fleabag<\/em>\u2019s star and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge went one step further and announced to reporters backstage that she is auctioning off her Ralph & Russo tweed suit and donating the money to the fire relief in Australia.<\/p>\n
