May 3, 2021<\/span><\/strong>: On Saturday, May 1,\u00a0<\/span>Vanessa Bryant<\/span><\/a> unveiled an apparel line entitled Mambacita in honor of her late daughter Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant’s 15th birthday. The limited-edition 10-piece unisex line sold out just hours after launch. Mambacita was the teen basketball player’s nickname, inspired by her legendary father Kobe Bryant’s nickname, “Black Mamba.” The father and daughter<\/a> tragically passed away in a <\/span>helicopter crash<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in January of 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bryant took to Instagram to announce the launch of the apparel line on Friday. She posted a series of photos modeling the sweats with daughters Natalia, Capri, and Bianka. As seen in the images, the capsule included a purple tie-dye sweatsuit (an ode to Gianna’s forever status as a Laker’s Princess) and a black tie-dye sweatsuit (the colors of her Mamba basketball uniform). The collection additionally included a face mask adorned with Gianna’s jersey number, #2 in a heart.<\/p>\n

The Mambacita collection was a collaboration with Dannijo<\/a>, a sister-run label based in Los Angeles. As announced by Bryant, the apparel line doubled as a fundraiser. “When I thought about how best to celebrate Gianna\u2019s birthday with so many who loved her, I knew it had to be a combination of sharing her bright and fun personality with her sense of purpose and passion that would help make a difference in this world,” Bryant wrote on Instagram on Gianna’s birthday.

She continued, “But what Gigi would love most about the Collection is that 100% of the proceeds will support the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, which is dedicated to creating positive impact for underserved athletes and young women in sports. Gigi was especially motivated to change the way everyone viewed women in sports, and it\u2019s fitting that this capsule represents her values.”<\/p>\n

Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, and Cindy Crawford are among the celebrities who supported the launch by posting in the sweats on social media. Likewise, Lakers team members paid tribute to Gianna by wearing the sweats before their game against the Toronto Raptors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bryant’s collection was a limited edition run that will not restock, but it’s unknown if there will be another collaboration with Dannijo and Mamabacita in the future.
