To announce The Duke of Edinburgh&#8217;s death, the royal family upheld tradition by placing a notice outside Buckingham Palace. Additionally, they shared the news with the world via a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royal.uk\/announcement-death-duke-edinburgh\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> posted to their website that reads as follows:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Flowers, notes, and more sentiments are being left at the gates of Buckingham Palace, Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and at the Cambridge Gate at Windsor Castle to pay respects to the monarch. The Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties in 2017, and he holds the esteemed title of the longest-serving royal consort in British history. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The news of his death comes just weeks after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/meghan-markle-oprah-interview\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tell-all interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with Oprah Winfrey, where the couple discusses intimate details living as royals and the <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/black-women-meghan-markle-oprah-winfrey\/\">deep-rooted racism<\/a> within the <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/buckingham-palace-queen-responds-oprah-meghan-markle-prince-harry\/\">institution<\/a> and British tabloids.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth&#8217;s late husband&#8217;s legacy, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">GRAZIA <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is taking a look back at the royal couple&#8217;s 74 years of marriage.
